Has the value of personal style been tarnished by cliquing and the quest for trends and doing right by them?
Well the answer is obviously yes. How else can you explain why many of us look like we roll for the same crew nowadays? All of us at some point are a copy of something or someone, even the so called different ones…
In case you were wondering, yes this is a follow-up post to the one about ugly clothes, but this one has a specific target in mind. I just don’t know how to link them to each other.
So…
In the past say 5 years (about as long as I have been fully aware of the power of fashion), there have been so many examples of people who are so firmly rooted in being themselves as opposed to a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy to the power of infinity. Like Anna dello Russo for example, the furthest thing from a copy and paste representation of the fashion world to date. She is sorta totally cool. AdR had my attention by the jugular, let’s say from 2010 to this very moment.
AdR is the kind of fashion person that you would expect to be seen with a straight-from-the-runway look that you thought was too weird for real life and belonged in a dark room on runway in an old castle in Paris, but does so well because AdR.
There were moments where I found myself saying ‘OMG that is so cool. I like this old woman, where do I buy Vogue Japan?’
Remember this? This? And most recently? She just knows what to do, despite being however old she is and the fact that she keeps taking pictures with the Kardashians – but we’ll forgive her, just as long as she gets over her thing with them quickly. Her reach goes further than helping the talentless, she is the one person I honestly think is amazing plus She has her finger in every designer’s, fashion magazine’s and fashion insider’s pie. Donatella, she’s there. Riccardo Tisci, best buddies. Chanel, on the regular.
Her most amazing moments, out of an infinity pool of sartorial mastery include her friendship with the Italian royalty of fashion Dolce & Gabbana, her ‘try anything’ attitude and the importance she puts in her personal style… for personal style’s damn sake.
Anna lives by the fact that fashion is her alphabet and her constantly ready and embellished fashion choices cement her forever as the guardian of fashion and her rules are ones to live by. Listen to this.
As the title states, this is an Anna dello Russo appreciation post and golly do I appreciate her. She’s one of the last actual individuals in a world made up of trends and trend-people.
She wears herself, her way.
And I am just going to leave this here... *stalks off*
And special mention on today's post goes to Sinawo Bukani who's blog is turning 1 today. Many happy returns to this inspirational space on the internet
